As I find on enquiry that the two letters, referred to by Mr. Caldwell (enclosure No. 14.) as written by him and dated the 10th August last have not been forwarded to the Secretary, I take the present opportunity to lay them before Your Excellency. I presume this with the assistance of Sir John in this case to whom the general subject is familiar from preceding Ergoinnes. Att. 8 June.

One of the charges brought against Mr. Caunce by Mr. Chisholm Anstey was that he had received money from a man called Mah Chew Wong "on account or out of the produce of plunder taken from Pirates". Mr. Caldwell admitted various transactions between himself and Mah Chow Wong but denied that those transactions had anything to do with piracy.
